Ball Control Soccer Drill
with Agility Ladder and Cones

Soccer Ball Control Training Drill - Set Up

  1. Agility Ladder
  2. 2 Soccer Balls 
  3. 12 Cones

Set up the Ladder with 5 - 6 cones on each side spaced as needed, closer for higher difficulty, further apart for easier challenge. 

One side of the cones will be in a linear shape, and the opposite side in a zig-zag form. 

Place one soccer ball on each side of the Agility Ladder.

  • (05:00)Sideways Running through Agility Ladder - 2 Reps

Start this soccer drill by running through the agility ladder, picking up the soccer ball as you exit the agility ladder, dribbling the ball through the six cones, and back again through the cones.

Leave the soccer ball in front of the Agility Ladder and run through the Agility Ladder once again from the opposite side, pick up the second soccer ball and dribble it through the zig-zag cone formation and back again through cones.

When you bring the second soccer ball to the starting point, one repetition will be completed.

Repeat 2 - 4 times for a completed set. 

Attempt 3 - 4 sets using different agility ladder drills through the Ladder for 2 - 4 repetitions.

Focus on controlling the soccer ball close to your feet as you go through the cones. Every step should follow with a touch on the ball.

Soccer Training Tips for this Soccer Ball Control Training Drill with Agility Ladder and Cones. 

  • Use different agility ladder runs.
  • Use right foot only through the cones.
  • Use left foot only through the cones.
  • Free alternating feet through the cones.
  • Roll across the body, push forward with opposite inside foot, and roll again with the opposite foot.
  • A higher number of players will need another set up on the field, so players don't have to wait long. One exercise set up for 4 - 6 players. 

This soccer drill is just one way to set up. You can build on it by getting creative and focusing on quick footwork, lots of touches on the soccer ball, and different turns throughout the exercise.
