1974 World Cup Soccer / Football

1974 World Cup was hosted by Germany.

This tournament was considered as one of total soccer/football.

With Pele retired, spotlight was taken over by Netherlands Johan Cruyff and German Franz Beckenbauer, player who revolutionized the libero role on the field. These two great players would also meet in the final.

Netherlands came out winning games as well as soccer/football fans around the world with their beautiful passing game that made their matches a joy to watch.

They scored 14 goals and conceded only 1 during the six games of World Cup 1974 prior to the final. This made them a favorite to win this years trophy, however soccer/football is an unpredictable game where anything can happen and the favorite doesn't always win.

This 1974 FIFA World Cup is also considered to be a rock and roll tournament with the players having long hairstyles, beards and a rebellious laid back attitude.

Dutch reached the finals where they played against Germany and would score the fastest goal in the history of world cup.

Johan Cruyff stared the game with the kick off from the middle, taking on all of Germans, dribbling and weaving trough players before being fouled inside the penalty box with just over a minute on the clock.

The penalty kick gave Dutch the lead and would also be the first penalty kick awarded during the final match in the history of world cup.

Game was going very well for Netherlands and they practically toyed with the German side passing the ball around and rarely giving up possession to Germans.

German side would however turn the game around and score twice before the first half was over making them this years Champion even tho Dutch looked like a much better side having most of the possession during the game, passing the ball around Germans and playing eye catching football/soccer but at the end of the game Germans walked away 1974 World Cup Champions to everyone's surprise.

Teams that participated in 1974 FIFA World Cup in Germany were:

Zaire, Australia, Bulgaria, German DR, Germany FR, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Scotland, Sweden, Yugoslavia, Haiti, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay.
