Small Sided Soccer Training

Small Sided Soccer Training is a great way to get creative with soccer drills and put players in game like situations, but smaller space.

Players will have to be encouraged to apply themselves and give full game like effort during the timed small sided games.

SOCCER TRAINING INSTRUCTIONS

  • YOUTH GRID SIZE 20 - 25 M/YD.
  • ADULT GRID SIZE 30 - 40 M/YD.
  • ADJUST THE GRID SIZE PER NUMBER OF PLAYERS, PLAYING SKILLS, AND AGE.
  • 2 Teams (Red Team and Blue Team) play possession game within the grid.
  • Players try to keep possession, with the intent to score on one of the diagonal goals. Blue team will try to score on the red goal, and red team will try to score on the blue goal.
  • Each team will defend their own goals.
  • One point is awarded for every goal scored, or both cones of the goal knocked over.

SOCCER DRILL VARIATIONS

  • Limit touches on the ball to make the game more difficult.
  • Add a neutral player for the team in possession of the ball.

This soccer training drill will allow players to attack and defend, diagonally. Players will touch the ball more often, making passes and quick decisions to keep possession.

I always tell players that hard work in training creates positive habit to play the games at a 100%. Being lazy in training will create that habit in the games.
