Liverpool vs Man City was City's first game since an independent commission found them guilty of serious breaches of Premier League financial rules (City deny wrongdoing and have appealed; sanctions come at a separate hearing), and they walked into the loudest, angriest Anfield in years and won 3-0. Boo all you want, Liverpool. City brought earplugs.
It was level until Ryan Gravenberch's second yellow on 62 minutes. Then City scored three in 16 minutes: Erling Haaland, a curler from substitute Jérémy Doku, and a silky finish from Rayan Cherki. Six games, six wins, 18 points, and their first back-to-back league wins at Anfield since 1953. Arsenal sit three behind after coming from a goal down to beat Leeds 2-1.
Now, my suffering. Manchester United 1, Tottenham 1, at Old Trafford, against a Spurs side without a league win since May who finished with ten men. Bryan Mbeumo, our one reliable adult, scored on 73. Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off five minutes later for a headbutt motion toward Luke Shaw, the benches had a little scuffle, and I started celebrating in Utah at 10:30 in the morning.
Big mistake. In stoppage time, Dominic Solanke glanced in Sandro Tonali's cross. United were booed off at half-time and full-time, with six points from six games, the club's worst start at this stage since 1986-87. Michael Carrick admitted his team were "off it." Now Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo miss Atlético, and Benjamin Šeško and Patrick Dorgu are out too.
Tarik Muharemović started at the Emirates, and Leeds led through James Justin before Riccardo Calafiori and Bruno Guimarães turned it around. Tarik picked up a yellow for a late one on Bukayo Saka. Call it a Bosnian welcome. Unbeaten run over, pride intact.
