1986 World Cup Soccer / Football

1986 World Cup was held in Mexico from May 31th until June 29th, 1986.

Columbia was the first choice to host 1986 Soccer World Cup, however due to financial reasons Columbia had to back out and the hosting of 1986 FIFA World Cup went to Mexico.

This Soccer World Cup had Diego Armando Maradona written all over it.

Argentinian inspiration came from this great player who dominated this tournament by scoring 5 goals and providing 5 assists to take Argentina all the way to the finals and eventually 1986 World Cup Title.

This 1986 World Cup would also be touched by the "hand of god" as Maradona called it during one of the most memorable matches against England in the quarter final played at the Azteca Stadium.

Argentina won this game 2:1 with Diego Maradona scoring the first goal by raising his arm and flicking the ball with his hand past the goalkeeper, which the referee did not see and allowed the goal to stand.

Only 3 minutes later Maradona would stun the whole world with his skill on the ball, agility and quickness as he took the ball inside his own half and started dribbling past not one or two but 5 England players, than dribbled the goalkeeper to finish his historic run with a tap-in inside an empty goal.

Argentina was crowned 1986 World Cup champion after beating Germany in the final.

Diego Armando Maradona was the key player in Argentinian victory and never in the history of soccer/football did one player had such influence on winning matches like Maradona did for his Nation.

Argentina might have truly been touched by the hand of god during this tournament ;)
