Wide Attacking Soccer Drill

WIDE ATTACKING SOCCER DRILL

This wide attacking soccer drill teaches players to stretch the soccer field wide and open more space to build up the attack.

Objective of this soccer training drill is to create a habit of passing the ball wide and relieve pressure in the midfield.

SOCCER DRILL SET UP

  • This drill can be done on a full field, half field, or grid 40 m/yd x 25 m/yd.
  • Depending on the field size, split the players into 2 teams of even numbers. If there is an odd number of players, one player can play the joker (player on the team in the possession of the ball).
  • Set up 2 cones on the left, and 2 cones on the right, from the center of the field. This should create 2 wide channels on left and right side of the the field.
  • Set up goals. or play on big goals, if using the whole soccer field for this drill.

SOCCER DRILL INSTRUCTIONS

  • Two teams will play a game of soccer.
  • In order to shoot and score a goal, players have to pass or dribble the soccer ball through one of the wide channels on the field.
  • Each team has its own goal to defend.
  • When possession changes, teams will switch roles.

SOCCER TRAINING TIPS

  • Every time possession is changed, two players should try to get wide as quickly as possible to create more space and outlet for a pass.
  • Limit touches on the soccer ball.
  • Add a second soccer ball.
  • Add a rule for the soccer ball being PASSED or DRIBBLED through the channels before attempting to score.

Get creative and add different rules and additions. Soccer is fun and simple.
