SIMPLE SOCCER TRAINING DRILLS

My choice for one of the more simple soccer training drills for players of all ages.

This drill can be done with cones set up in a line or zig zag formation.

  • Set up 5 cones spaced 1 m/yd apart.
  • Set up the goal 10 m/y away.
  • Player starts with the ball, dribbling through the cones and passing the ball through Coaches / Parents legs.
  • Player than runs around the Coach/Parent, and takes a shot on goal.

Many young players don’t understand what it means to kick the ball with the inside of the foot. Take the time to demonstrate and show players how their foot needs to make contact with the ball.

Toes up, ankle locked, firm contact on the ball.

Get creative with this soccer drill by making the players dribble and get creative with the ball once out of the cones.

Another good way to make the exercise harder is limiting touches on right foot only, or left foot only.

Players can do a skill around the cones like gates or toe touches.

Juggling the soccer ball around the cones, before dribbling and shooting the soccer ball, is very beneficial for the players coordination on the ball in a journey to get super familiar with the surface of the ball. 

Get creative and come up with your own rules and limitations.
